DESKTOP 3173 - FIBRES

A photomicrograph (photograph taken through a microscope) of the cellulose fibres making up a sheet of lens cleaning paper, magnified about 100 times. The image has been pseudocolourised with LUT (look up table) corresponding to intensity of light transmission.

I have edited this in Photoshop using the cutout filter and upped the contrast.

DESKTOP 2524 - FRAGMENTED

This is the result of a little playing around with the mosaic filter and layers in Photoshop.

DESKTOP 2440 - DE-KLIMT!

Taking photos of an oil colour copy of the painting "The Kiss" by Klimt, I digitally reconstructed the photographic images to come up with this mosaic. I recently read an excellent book on this artist and I am appreciating his works more and more now.

DESKTOP 2413 - BRISBANE

Brisbane is the capital and most populous city in the Australian state of Queensland, and the third most populous city in Australia. Brisbane's metropolitan area has a population of 2.24 million, and the South East Queensland conurbation, centred on Brisbane, encompasses a population of more than 3 million. The Brisbane central business district stands on the original European settlement and is situated inside a bend of the Brisbane River, approximately 15 kilometres from its mouth at Moreton Bay.

DESKTOP 2299 - KLIMT FRACTURED

We have a large oil painting copy of Klimt's "The Kiss" hanging on one of our walls at home. I took some photos of it and digitally "deconstructed" it to come up with this mosaic.

DESKTOP 2271 - PUMPKINS

It's interesting to see Melbourne's shops becoming filled with pumpkins even though they are out of season. It's all to do with Halloween of course, and the pumpkins are mostly imported, and yes you guessed it from the USA!

The triptych mosaic today is quite subtle, as I have taken a photograph and applied three different filters in Photoshop on three layers. The left part is the "poster edges" effect, the middle part is a filter of my own invention, which I called "sunny" and the right part is the "dry brush" filter followed by a blurring effect.

DESKTOP 2211 - GOLD

Gold | ɡəʊld | noun [mass noun]
1 A yellow precious metal, the chemical element of atomic number 79, used in jewellery and decoration and to guarantee the value of currencies. (Symbol: Au) [as modifier]: Gold earrings.
• [with modifier] An alloy of gold: 9-carat gold.

Gold is quite widely distributed in nature but economical extraction is only possible from deposits of the native metal or sulphide ores, or as a by-product of copper and lead mining. The use of the metal in coins is now limited, but it is also used in electrical contacts and (in some countries) as a filling for teeth.

2 A deep lustrous yellow or yellow-brown colour: The artist decorated the painting with liberal splashes of gold.

DESKTOP 2167 - SHADED

Taking a photo through the window over which a fine mesh shade was drawn. The light and shadows as the sun shines through the vegetation and shade make a good mosaic.
